Microcement Application

Microcement outdoor

Weather-resistant outdoor microcement for patios, garden paths and retaining walls. Slip-resistant, UV-stable, and engineered for British seasons.

Why choose microcement outdoors

Outdoor microcement uses a different formulation to interior — UV-stable pigments, freeze-thaw additives, and a slip-resistant top sealer specifically rated for British weather. The visual character is the same calm continuous surface; the durability is rated for decades of seasonal cycling.

It's most often specified as an alternative to traditional paving stones, decking, or poured concrete. The big advantage is no joints — water drains predictably across one continuous plane rather than tracking through grout lines and lifting individual stones over time.

Key benefits

UV-stable colours

Pigments rated to hold their tone through years of British sun and seasonal exposure without fading.

Freeze-thaw rated

Outdoor formulation absorbs the expansion and contraction of frost cycles without micro-cracking.

Slip-resistant top sealer

Outdoor sealer adds a textured top layer that grips wet feet and shoes without changing the look.

Seamless from edge to edge

No joints, no gaps where weeds creep in, no individual stones to lift and re-bed every few years.

Lays over existing patios

Apply over sound concrete, paving slabs or screed. No demolition skip, no waste, no level changes.

Custom colour palette

Cool greys, warm beiges, terracottas, deep slates — the same 40+ colours available indoors.

Finishes

Three signature finishes

All three finishes are available in any of our 40+ standard colours. Choose by tactility — smooth for gallery-like calm, stucco for handcrafted warmth, coarse for industrial character.

Smooth microcement finish

Smooth

The most refined of the three styles. Minimal visible trowel marks for a near-uniform appearance — best for contemporary, minimalist interiors.

Stucco effect microcement finish

Stucco effect

Visible hand-troweled texture with subtle cloud-like tonal variations. The classic Venetian plaster character — depth without busy pattern.

Coarse effect microcement finish

Coarse effect

Pronounced grain and tactile surface texture. The most expressive finish — best for industrial, rustic or characterful interiors.

How it works

Our installation process

From first site visit to final sealed surface, every project follows the same four-stage process. Exact timelines depend on the size of the area and substrate condition — we'll confirm a schedule with your quote.

  1. 01 Free

    Site visit & quote

Free in-person consultation across London & Surrey. We assess the substrate, talk through colour and finish options, and provide a fixed-price quote.

  2. 02

    Surface preparation

Existing substrate cleaned, repaired, primed and reinforced with fibreglass mesh where required. The hidden step that decides everything.

  3. 03

    Microcement application

Two base coats and two finish coats applied by hand at ~2–3mm total thickness. Each layer is troweled and sanded to your chosen texture.

  4. 04

    Sealing & protection

Pre-sealer and topsealer applied to lock in colour and create a fully washable, water-resistant surface. Cure time 24–48 hours before normal use.

Common questions

Microcement outdoor — FAQ

Will outdoor microcement survive British winters?
Yes — outdoor formulation is specifically freeze-thaw rated and tested through multiple winter cycles. The top sealer resists frost penetration and the base mix absorbs expansion without cracking.
Will the colour fade in sunlight?
Outdoor pigments are UV-stable and rated to hold their tone for 10+ years of direct sun exposure. Some softening of saturation can occur over decades, similar to any pigmented surface.
Can it be applied over my existing patio slabs?
Yes, provided the slabs are sound, level and well-drained. We sand, prime, and reinforce the joints with fibreglass mesh. The seamless microcement layer ties everything together as one surface.
Is it slip-resistant when wet?
Yes — the outdoor top sealer adds a textured grip layer rated for wet conditions. Bare feet, shoes, and pool decks all stay safe in rain.
How is drainage handled?
We grade the surface during application toward existing drains, soakaways or border falls. There are no joints to channel water, so drainage is predictable — water flows where the gradient takes it.
